It’s been a while since most of us have taken a look at a version of Avidemux (other than the one in our default repository.) I grabbed my a copy of 2.4.0 pre-release and had some fun playing with it. There is a lot of updates from the Ubuntu stock version.

First, and my favorite, is the mp4 container has been added to the output. This is HUGE! Now I can finally make decent h264 videos in Linux. (I was on the verge of just blacklisting h264 all together.)
Another feature I am just gonzo about is the requantize “codec” for DVD. This lets you resize a mpeg2 video with out completely transcoding it. Very slick app. It’s available for Linux, OSX, and even Windows.
